Stuff Seniors Need to Know

Senior Info   2014-15

ACT and/or SAT
The ACT test covers 4 areas: Reading comprehension, English (grammar), math, and science. This test is tied to high school curricula, i.e. what you have already learned in high school. Visit to register.
Cost:  No Writing….. $38.00    Plus Writing….$ 54.50   Late fee…. $24        
Test Dates:        February 7     April 18      June 13

The SAT test covers 3 areas: reading, math, and writing. It measures the skills you have learned both in and out of the classroom, along with your ability to apply that knowledge. Check out to register.  
Cost: $52.50         Late fee….$28.00   
Test Dates:      January 24        March 14         May 2         June 6
*Students qualifying for free/reduced lunch can get a waiver to cover the cost of the tests. See Mrs. Head

As local and area scholarship applications arrive, I will have folders for them in the office. Be on the lookout for new scholarships and deadlines. In the meantime, here are just a few websites to begin your scholarship search…


FAFSA and financial aid
Seniors may begin filling out the FAFSA on January 1, 2015, and not a day before! (So don’t even try) 
Steps to completing the FAFSA application:
1. Get a pin # (you can do this NOW. Both you and your parents will need one)
2. Begin the application on or soon after January 1st
3. Get income tax return done ASAP. You will want to have your FAFSA completed by the end of February if possible.
4. Complete the FAFSA application
Parent(s) information is required on the application unless:
*Parents are deceased or incarcerated
*Student is an Unaccompanied Youth 
*Student is 24 or older
Other circumstances include divorced parents, legal guardians, etc. See Mrs. Head if you think any of these apply to you or see for more info.

Other Senior Tidbits:
  Transcripts – sign the clipboard at Mrs. Campbell’s desk to have your transcript sent to a college or prospective job.
  GPAs and class rank – These will not be recalculated until after 1st semester is completed. Final class rank will be determined after the 5th six weeks is over, and dual credit grades are in.
  College Days – You are allowed 2 days to visit colleges without affecting your attendance. 
  STAAR - All 5 STAAR EOC tests must be passed in order to graduate
