Substitute Teaching at Merkel ISD
PLEASE NOTE: Our policies regarding substitute teachers have changed significantly beginning with the 2014-15 school year. The new guidelines also apply to those who have worked previously.

What's needed to become a sub at MISD?
To be included on the sub list for any MISD school, you must complete the following tasks. (this may involve multiple trips to the MISD Central Office):
  1. Complete the hiring process (application / hiring / fingerprinting)
  2. Attend in-person orientation
  3. Complete paperwork

1) The hiring process

To get started, you must first be hired. Applications are available at the Employment Opportunities section of the MISD web site. Once your application is approved, you will be contacted regarding fingerprinting.
NOTE: If you have previously been hired and fingerprinted, you do NOT need to repeat this step.

2) Orientation

After being hired and fingerprinted, you MUST attend an in-person orientation session. These sessions are held several times throughout the year. The superintendent's secretary will contact you by phone or email with the information leading up to the next orientation that is scheduled.

*ALL SUBS MUST ATTEND ORIENTATION. If it has been over a year since you previously subbed, you will be required to attend an orientation.

3) Sign paperwork

You will need to read and sign a copy of the MISD Substitute Handbook, and the Responsible Use Guidelines for technology. This should be done annually. Those who have previously subbed WILL need to sign these forms each year.

Contact information for the Superintendent's secretary can be found here.
